Fall Planting at Cecil Moses Park
December 17, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
ABOUT THIS EVENT: Join EarthCorps and King County Parks as we work and learn about Seattle’s only river: the Duwamish! Being an estuary means this area is located where salt and freshwater mix, which is especially important to threatened local salmon. Young salmon coming from the Green/Duwamish River will feed, hide from predators, and get used to salt water in the shallow waters here. Nearby trees, shrubs, and marsh plants will host insects for young fish to eat as they prepare for their lives in salt water. THE BASICS: We’ll supplies gloves, tools, water, light refreshments and volunteer education. We will provide everything you need to know about tool use and safety, estuary health, information on the parks, and the importance of the work you’ll be doing. No prior experience necessary, just come ready to learn something new!FOR YOUR SAFETY AND COMFORT, PLEASE BRING:
Events will happen rain or shine! Remember to check the weather and bring appropriate layers and raingear/sun wear if needed. WHAT WILL WE BE DOING? In order to do this, we will be focusing on planting native trees and shrubs to help reforest the park. mulching to add nutrients, and some weeding of aggressive weeds to make sure the baby plants will thrive in their new home.
